So about a week ago, I spent 30 minutes on the phone talking to a friend of mine who was interested in the raw food diet and something magical happened.I hadn’t spoken to him in quite some time and while my health was getting better, his health was detoriating. So after giving him the inside scoop of the diet, he came back at me with a series of objections…
- How do I get protein in my diet?
- It’s too expensive!
- I can’t cook my food?
- I can only eat raw foods?
Everything that he heard and that most likely you have heard IS ALL WRONG! These could not be farther from the truth. So I decided to make a quick video for you “dispelling” the raw food myths.Take a look at this video and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear your feedback. To play the video press the “PLAY” button on the video. Please wait a moment for the video to load…

What about dental issues and vitamin B 12? Some raw foodists say they have dental problems, and that they are vitamin B 12 deficient. Can you say what your take is on that?
thanks,
Mark

Hi Jim,
Just listened to “Dispelling the raw food myths”
Great job, and good info. One question, where is the recipe for the flax crackers that you make in the dehydrator ? Do you have that recipe posted somewhere?
Bonnie :)

Jim: Just finished listening to “Dispelling the raw food myths” Jim a great job as usual. I also learned something new that using your blender is one form of heating your raw food. I am not totally raw, but I’ll share this quick thought. I was spending $600.00 a month in meds, decided enough was enough. went to Optimum Health Inst. last summer for 2 wks. I came off all meds and I use raw plus some natural products for right now. I’ve lost 12 pds, and I’m doing great. I have not told my Dr’s what I’ve done but I check in and everything is fine and I just chuckle to myself. I am waiting for one year then I’ll request a conference with my Dr’s and I’ll tell them “none of your meds for 1 yr.” What do you have to say about that???? (SMILE)
Tks again for all you do and share.

Hi Jim,
Are your green smoothies vegetables only or do you put fruit in also? I do two quarts of mixed smoothies a day (fruit and greens). Am I getting too much fruit in my diet?

Great job! While being overweight leads to many health concerns, many raw foodies remain overweight or gain weight. It’s about health and learning to make good eating choices. There are plenty of raw foodies who overindulge in fats and do not eat a balanced diet.
I hope those who embark on this wonderful journey do so with the intention of health—healthy emotions, thoughts, body, and spirit.

Anything that helps us do better at eating raw is a blessing. This is good information. Thank You.

This is excellent information for the people who dont know about the ins and outs of raw food, but of course those are the ones you want to reach . I do think you should include something about B-12 and how raw foodist get it though.

Excellent! Jim everytime I get an email from you reminding us of the benefits of raw food it just confirms that I am heading in the right direction. It keeps me motivated. Thanks for pointing out we just have to do a little bit at a time. We don’t have to become raw all at once. I will be forwarding this to some non raw friends. Thanks again.

Thank you Jim for the video Dispelling Raw Food Myths. I have just started juicing and making smoothies for a couple of weeks and yes, I can see results. I am a student and only had a few hrs sleep last night due to a deadline for an assignment, but I still feel energised. A few months ago I would not have lasted the day. I have just ordered a dehyrator and can’t wait for it’s arrival. I do get a bit confused with many opinions on raw food, some say dehydrating is not right and others say unless you are 100% raw then you are not doing it right. I think your ideas and philosophy is most balanced and I am going to listen to what you have to say. Esp with regard to Ann Wigmore and your history with the centre. Thank you once again for your inspiration and open heart to help others on their raw foods journey. Just another thing, I live in Melbourne Australia and as far as I know we have no raw food restaurants… so maybe I will end up starting one!
warm wishes
Barbara
PS - I look forward to your home study program:)

Thank you Jim….I really need to hear your video this morning…I was on 80% raw a month or so ago…felt terrific and can’t imagine why I fell off the wagon…You have gotten me back on track…Thanks so much…Donna

Jim,
This is a great video. I agree with some of the other responces that it would be good to include info about fermented foods and B12.
I am a recovering cooked foodist, tempted back into the s.a.d. lifestyle but always trying to get back on the wagon. It would be nice to have a video about how to stay raw in a modern world and words of encouragement for those of us who feel we have failed.
Thank you for all you do.

Jim,
Can you confirm how you know that Lance Armstrong is a raw foodist? A biking racer friend of mine says he definitely wasn’t when winning the Tour de France, but might be currently. I can’t seem to find any information when searching the web. Do you have a source you can share?
Mark

Dear Jim,
Great information. I found it inspiring. Thanks for the support.
Helena mentions that she spent two weeks last summer at Optimum Health Institute. Can you tell me where to find out more about this option?
Thank you.

EVERYONE SEEMS TO THINK THIS LIFESTYLE(RAW FOOD) TAKES A LOT OF PREPERATION, WELL IT DOES BUT IT IS JUST A MATTER OF GETTING USED TO NOT COOKING, JUST LIKE YOU DID COOKING IN THE FIRST PLACE, ONCE YOU GET IN THE ROUTINE IT IS NO MORE TIME CONSUMING, (IN FACT i FIND IT LESS) THAN MAKING COOKID MEALS ESPECIALLY IF YOUR OF THE OLD SCHOOL AND DO IT ALL FROM SCRATCH, AND THE CLEAN UP IS EASIER, YOU DONT HAVE ALL THE GREASY POTS AND PANS TO WASH, HOW DOES THAT COMMERCIAL GO?? SOMETHING PRICE, SOMETHING , PRICE, AND THEN THE LAST SOMETHING IS PRICELESS, WELL THAT IS CERTAINLY THE WAY IT IS WITH EATING RAW FOOD THE RESULTS ARE PRICELESS AS IS ALL YOU DO FOR PEOPLE, THANK YOU, GOD BLESS YOU KEEP UP WHAT YOU ARE DOING,AND BEING WHO YOU ARE. YOU ARE WONDERFULL.THANKZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

I hope this helps a lot people. I myself thought these myths were true until I looked further into it.
Debbie: You’re right most people think it’s difficult when in fact it easy, simple, predictable, and above all better for you. :)
Any try out the video comments below?

Mark, you can find B-12 in Spirulina and algae.
Hope it helps,
Karine
April 29th, 2008 at 6:43 am
I’ve been putting spirulina in my green smoothies as well. Also cultured foods,e.g. rye berries in rejuvelac contain beneficial bacteria. These beneficial bacteria produce certain B-vitamins including B-12.

Hello Jim,
I am new in raw eating life style. In my three weeks, I made some mistakes trying this and that. I did not lose any weight. Probably because I ate raw fruits, raw fish and raw yolks only. Fruits have to mach sugar. I feel more energy and do not have craving to cooked food. This is interesting feeling. Thank you for your record. I gat so many answers and I realize my mistakes

Jim
What a great job! It has been a long time coming and I am glad it is here. I think that your video answers a lot of questions for new as well as long time raw fooders. I think that in the beginging of this movement there were to many do’s and don’t’s and now you have opened it up and made it exceptable to be 70%,80% and even 90% raw with out feeling like a failure. Something is always better than nothing.
Thank you!
