Notes from the Institute
-- by Jim Carey

The Victoria Boutenko video of her lecture at CHI last month are completed and started shipping today. They came out great!. For those who pre-ordered one, expect to see your copy in the mail next week. For those who haven't ordered yet, it's called Correcting 7 Common Mistakes that Occur on Raw Food Diet and is a 2 DVD or VHS tape. Until the end of June it's selling for the price of a single DVD or VHS. See http://chiDiet.com/tapes.htm#v47 for ordering information.

The 3 hour video starts off with me telling how and why I became involved with CHI almost 4 years ago. I then introduce Steven Gibb, the Program Director of CHI, who does a fund-raising appeal for the Andressohn Family before introducing Victoria and Igor Boutenko. Socrates is involved, but you'll have to see it for yourself. <g> There's catchy music and footage of the crowd enjoying the Raw Gourmet meal Igor, Victoria and the CHI staff prepared for the event, and later, sampling Victoria's new Favorite Green Smoothie (recipe below), based on Dr. Wigmore's original Energy Soup. Almost all of the charts and graphs that Victoria used in her lecture came out quite well and are very readable in the video.

In this video Victoria frankly and honestly addresses the issues that Raw Fooders face - tooth decay, weight loss, vitamin and mineral deficiencies, substance cravings, toxicity, and more. She shares her research and the experiences of her family during their 11 year raw journey, and shows us the simple solution. I haven't talked to one person who didn't absolutely love the lecture.

Oh, yes - almost all of this material is new within the last 6 months.

Perhaps the most satisfying part of her lecture, for those of us dedicated to CHI, is that Victoria is effectively advising a return to the program and lifestyle that was developed and taught by Dr. Ann Wigmore - what we've been teaching for 28 years. <g>

If you're not familiar with Victoria's work (she and her family spent 9 months at CHI), here's an overview: http://www.emaxhealth.com/74/981.html. Victoria and her family's website is http://www.rawfamily.com/.

Steven's fund-raising appeal for the Andressohns' was quite effective - after the crowd left Victoria and Igor donated their proceeds from the lecture to the Andressohn Legal Defense Fund. Thus inspired, CHI donated their proceeds from the event, too. That, of course, encouraged several others to make generous contributions. If you'd like to join the club, and help out a really worthy cause with a tax-deductible contribution, please visit http://rawfriends.com/donations.htm or call Steven Gibb of CHI toll-free at (866) 426-1213. If you're not familiar with the case and the issues, please visit http://rawfriends.com/andressohns.html and http://annwigmore.com/news.

Andressohn family update: Their next hearing has been postponed until August 2nd. They're still living at home, but with electronic monitoring ankle bracelets on them 24 hours a day, and their children are still in a foster home. Their newborn infant is doing great, and so far DCF hasn't tried to grab that one. (Born May 2nd at 6 lb, 8 oz, and weighed 9 lbs by the end of the month! <g>)

Brave folks. We love them.

Another neat thing happened recently - Dr. Flora, Dr. Ann Wigmore's long-time friend and traveling companion, visited CHI for a week. We all got to spend lots of time chatting with her about Dr. Ann and the Living Foods philosophy, and she gave us a number of pointers about how Dr. Ann would run the program at CHI. We're planning on making a visit to Dr. Flora's place in South Florida, and doing an extensive video interview with her in the near future. We'll let you know when that happens; hopefully it will be this month. To view the rough, rough draft (actually, a collection of Dr. Flora's notes) that she's putting together for her upcoming book, Conversations with Dr. Flora, visit http://www.therawdiet.com/pdf/drflora.pdf.

Making a Personal Commitment to be Healthier

How do you stand? 95% raw? 80%? 70%? 25% raw, and falling? Remember, this is a Lifestyle Choice, not a religion. Eating outside of the program is not cheating or failing. It's just eating outside of the program. Don't give up because you can't be “pure.” Very few raw fooders are truly 100% raw. Even when we're only 50% raw we do incredibly better than when we're on the SAD (Standard American Diet).

If you'd like to be re-inspired in your rawness, to have a refresher course in food preparation, to re-experience the warm, loving, family atmosphere of CHI….. why, then…. well…. If you're Backsliding, why not Slide Back In to the program for a week or two? Now is a great time to visit CHI because the classes are full and there's a great energy with so many guests.

Check out http://CreativeHealthInstitute.us/programs.htm for class schedules. The next session begins June 12th.

Week two of every session is Raw Gourmet Week. A great opportunity to sharpen your raw food prep skills. If it isn't tasty, you won't eat it. And you can come for just the second week of a program!

The testimonies speak volumes: http://creativehealthinstitute.us/testimonials.htm.

Into blogging? Here's a Raw Food blog of Raw Food blogs: http://www.welikeitraw.com/rawfood/2005/05/raw_food_blog_r.html.

Sent to us by a loyal reader: http://www.google.com/Top/Shopping/Entertainment/Recordings/Video/Health/ - apparently Google likes the Home Study version of the Wigmore program enough to list it in their directory. We didn't ask or apply for this, it just happened. <g>

According to Barnes and Noble, and Amazon.com, Dr. Ann Wigmore's (DD, ND) famous autobiography, Why Suffer?: How I Overcame Illness & Pain Naturally is out of print, and collector copies are selling for over $100. Guess what? We have the CHI reprint edition in stock, and for under $10: http://chidiet.com/books.htm#Why.

Backslider's Corner

This is a lifestyle choice, not a religion.

Even if you're only eating on the program 50% of the time, how much better are you doing than when you were on the SAD? (Exactly what I said last week, because it's ALWAYS good advice!)

We Get Mail - from all over the world...

I want to thank you for your efforts in educating people on the benefits of the healthy lifestyle.
I enjoy reading your comments.
Ellis Whitehead

Dear Jim,
Thank you for believing in and encouraging me.
I've just come back from California where I had a great time with my older niece and her family and we all celebrated the first birthday of my younger niece who is 35 years younger than her half-sister.
Of course I had a Russian copy of "12 steps..." and wonderful materials from your e-mails. I am not sure, but I hope that SOMETIMES it will help.
I will e-mail the last one directly to my older niece (she just came back from the Netherlands), I hope she will be able to convince her father to pay attention.
Thank you again very, very much.
My best regards,
Sarah
(Chicago)

Hello Steven and Jim,
I must share with you that I am very happy with the home course.
The big plus is something I would not easily achieve coming for a stay at Creative Health. Although a visit is my future plans.
My children have been watching the videos with me. All three have done wheatgrass shots. Their ages are 10, 12 and 18.
I firmly believe hearing the benefits of this lifestyle from the tapes, as opposed to "just Mom," is vesting them into at least trying.
Thank you for making this available.
Blessings,
Gloria

Thank you for putting together this newsletter. I enjoy reading it.

... I almost went to see Victoria myself but our group has been really busy lately..
We're really growing as a raw group in Nashville - we just had Tonya Zavasta speak - and your tapes and sheets are helping me so much in organizing things. :)
Thanks again..
Kristin :)

One Last Letter - from closer to home

James,

A lot of people don't know that Ann Wigmore was here or had much to do with CHI.

In fact, when I tell people about her coming here for the first 13 years and harvesting the garden… they are all surprised.

Then I tell then we have the original Ann Wigmore room that we rent and they get excited.

So, the hundred dollar question is - how to we place emphasis on this point?

Thanks
Steven

The Raw Living Foods Home Study Program

The Living Foods Lifestyle developed by Dr. Ann Wigmore, and refined over the last 28 years at Creative Health Institute (one of several Institutes founded or cofounded by Dr. Ann Wigmore), is also available in a home study version. If you can't get away for a two-week program, the home study alternative is available at http://ChiDiet.com/lessons.htm. There's so much information in the home study program - 15 lessons, 30 videos - that you'd have to spend a month at Creative Health Institute to cover it all.

Examine all, or any part of the program, and keep the book, Why Suffer?: How I Overcame Illness & Pain Naturally, by Dr. Ann Wigmore. Visit http://www.ChiDiet.com to learn more, or email james@ChiDiet.com with your questions.

We also have a new books page at http://chidiet.com/books.htm. More titles are being added every week; check out "Dr. Ann Wigmore's Kitchen:" http://chidiet.com/tapes.htm#v51.
