Over the Long Term
by Donald O. Haughey, founder of Creative Health Institute

One way to adapt to long term as a raw food vegetarian is to live with common sense.  Excessive will power based on the supposed knowledge we acquire can make life miserable and create physical, mental, emotional and spiritual imbalance that throws off the body, blood, and brain chemistry.

Dr. Ann Wigmore gave me the basis of the lifestyle that saved my life.  I experimented with her position and that of Arnold Ehrets and that of Dr. Christopher, Dr. Jenson and others and never found better simple advice than hers.

Fortunately, kinesiology let me tap into body, mind, and spirit wisdom to test what is good, bad, and in between.

My favorite song became, “You’ve got to ac-cen--tuate the positive, e-lim---inate the negative.”

Good food, wicked food:

30 to 40 percent of all cancers are related to our lifestyle choices, including the foods we eat, how much exercise we get and how well we watch our weight. Are you making the right choices?

Here's a quiz based on a report on cancer prevention from the American Institute for Cancer Research:  http://www.bradenton.com/mld/bradenton/living/health/14809714.htm?source=rss&channel=bradenton_health

[Other authorities believe that lifestyle choices, particularly diet, play an even larger role in cancer prevention.]

B-vitamin pills fail brain test:

Vitaminbottles (AP) Folate and B vitamin pills failed to help keep elderly people's brains and memories sharp in the longest study yet to test this approach.

Some scientists said the study was too small to be the final word, but it was one of the best done so far and came after three very large studies produced disappointing results using the same nutrients to try to prevent heart disease: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20060629/ap_on_he_me/diet_brainy_vitamins_2.

Poor sleep raises risk for strokes:

Sleep apnea, often responsible for shortness of breath and loud snoring has ruined countless peaceful nights. It may also increase the risk for stroke, according to a study in the New England Journal of Medicine.

These results are the latest to suggest that this common sleep problem has more troubling consequences than simply feeling tired the next day.

A recent study evaluated 842 middle-aged men and women who sought help for their sleep problems. About two-thirds of the participants were diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea.
Three years later, there were 22 strokes and 50 deaths in this group.

In contrast, there were 2 strokes and 14 deaths in the group that had more benign sleep troubles. When hypertension and other common stroke risk factors were ruled out, sleep apnea appeared to double the chances of someone suffering an attack.

Sleep apnea clogs the airway and can cause someone to struggle to breathe during their sleep, which is responsible for the loudest snoring. This disruption can lead to surges in blood pressure and a lack of oxygen that may gradually increase the risk of stroke. Also, most people die in their sleep and the lower oxygen supply seems to be a primary cause of this.

Often times the sleeper is not aware this is happening. They wake up from the slight pause in breathing and then fall back asleep. The only clue is feeling exceptionally tired the next day.

Researchers found that a type of air forced air pressure and face mask can counter these sleep disruptions and reduce the risk of heart attacks, another after effect of apnea.

However, I learned that many who are prescribed with these devices do not like them and will not wear them. Although it's not clear that the same treatment can help against stroke. "Everyone will sleep better," he said.

New drug to eliminate distrust of large pharmaceutical companies (a spoof):

Pharmamorin_1 NEW YORK—The Food and Drug Administration today approved the sale of the drug PharmAmorin, a prescription tablet developed by Pfizer to treat chronic distrust of large prescription-drug manufacturers.

Pfizer executives characterized the FDA's approval as a "godsend" for sufferers of independent-thinking-related mental-health disorders.

"Many individuals today lack the deep, abiding affection for drug makers that is found in healthy people, such as myself," Pfizer CEO Hank McKinnell said. "These tragic disorders are reaching epidemic levels, and as a company dedicated to promoting the health, well-being, and long life of our company's public image, it was imperative that we did something to combat them."

Although many psychotropic drugs impart a generalized feeling of well-being, PharmAmorin is the first to induce and focus intense feelings of affection externally, toward for-profit drug makers. Pfizer representatives say that, if taken regularly, PharmAmorin can increase affection for and trust in its developers by as much as 96.5 percent.

"Out of a test group of 180, 172 study participants reported a dramatic rise in their passion for pharmaceutical companies," said Pfizer director of clinical research Suzanne Frost. "And 167 asked their doctors about a variety of prescription medications they had seen on TV."

Frost said a small percentage of test subjects showed an interest in becoming lobbyists for one of the top five pharmaceutical companies, and several browsed eBay for drug-company apparel.

PharmAmorin, available in 100-, 200-, and 400-mg tablets, is classified as a critical-thinking inhibitor, a family of drugs that holds great promise for the estimated 20 million Americans who suffer from Free-Thinking Disorder.

Pfizer will also promote PharmAmorin in an aggressive, $34.6 million print and televised ad campaign.

One TV ad, set to debut during next Sunday's 60 Minutes telecast, shows a woman relaxing in her living room and reading a newspaper headlined "Newest Drug Company Scandal Undermines Public Trust." The camera zooms into the tangled neural matter of her brain, revealing a sticky black substance and a purplish gas.

The narrator says, "She may show no symptoms, but in her brain, irrational fear and dislike of global pharmaceutical manufacturers is overwhelming her very peace of mind."

After a brief summary of PharmAmorin's benefits, the commercial concludes with the woman flying a kite across a sunny green meadow, the Pfizer headquarters gleaming in the background.

PharmAmorin is the first drug of its kind, but Pfizer will soon face competition from rival pharmaceutical giant Bristol-Myers Squibb. The company is developing its own pro-pharmaceutical-company medication, Brismysquibicin, which will induce warm feelings not just for drug corporations in general, but solely for Bristol-Myers Squibb.

"A PharmAmorin user could find himself gravitating toward the products of a GlaxoSmithKline or Eli Lilly," BMS spokesman Andrew Fike said. "This could seriously impede the patient's prescription-drug-market acceptance, or worse, Pfizer's profits in the long run."

"Brismysquibicin will be cheaper to produce and therefore far more affordable to those on fixed incomes," Fike added.

The news of an affordable skepticism-inhibitor was welcomed by New York physician Christine Blake-Mann, who runs a free clinic in Spanish Harlem.

"A lot of my patients are very leery of the medical establishment," Blake-Mann said. "This will help them feel better about it, and save money at the same time."

PharmAmorin's side effects include nausea, upset stomach, and ignoring the side effects of prescription drug medication.

Do me a favor before you read the next paragraph - go to your cupboards and refrigerator, and take a look at how many packaged food items you have in your kitchen. While you are there pull out a desert item (i.e. ice cream), a boxed item (i.e. breakfast cereal) and any other item you have that is flavored (i.e. salad dressing) and take a look at the labels. After reading the ingredients list, ask yourself:

   1. How many words am I unable to pronounce?

   2. Which of these ingredients have I never heard of and/or have no idea what it is?

Go take a look at those labels and, when you come back to finish this article, I will tell you why you may be having such a hard time flattening your abs, and why, even if they are flat, you may feel so dull every day!

Backsliding but progressing is NOT about feeling guilty about slipping. Even if you weren't 100% raw this week, how much better are you feeling than when you were on the SAD?

"The gathering of people is what most frightens oppressive government. Wherever freedom reigns in the world, there is open communication amongst people. When we gather, we gain power. When we fail to gather, we only fail ourselves. Therefore, let us not forsake the gathering of ourselves together. It is as vital now as it has ever been." - Jay North
